Local physicians are conducting research for women’s sexual health and offering patients with new treatment options.
SEATTLE, WA – As many as four in ten women experience sexual issues at some point in their lives. The most common sexual conditions for women are low sexual desire and pain during sex. Seattle Clinical Research Center is raising awareness for women’s sexual health with new medications and research opportunities.
The most common form of female sexual dysfunction is hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). For women that have not gone through menopause, there are two FDA approved HSDD treatments.
Seattle Clinical Research Center research team participated in clinical trials for both HSDD medications, Addyi and Vyleesi. Addyi is a once-daily pill, and Vyleesi is an injection that is self-administered as needed at least 45 minutes before sexual activity.
“We conducted trials for many of the approved pills and continue to do so in an effort to provide women more options,” says Gynecologist, Dr. Robin Kroll, of Seattle Clinical Research Center.
For menopausal women, there are also effective treatments for sexual dysfunction. Bupropion and female appropriate dosing of testosterone are FDA approved drugs, but not for sexual dysfunction. These meds can be used “off label” though, with gratifying results. Menopausal hormone therapy can also enhance sexual function.
“Our physicians have advanced training in women’s sexual medicine and are excited to raise awareness for these common conditions that aren’t often talked about,” states Dr. Robin Kroll.
All of the gynecologists at Seattle Clinical Research Center have experience in treating sexual dysfunction. Dr. Philip DuBois of Seattle Clinical Research Center wrote a book titled Sex, Intimacy & Menopause: A Gynecologist’s Guide for Men.
“Raising awareness of women’s sexual health is important, because it not only affects the women, but their partners as well,” states Dr. Philip DuBois.
Seattle Clinical Research Center is actively participating in clinical trials for potential new sexual medicine treatments, including an upcoming study for Sildenafil, a cream for female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD).
“Participating in research can be very rewarding for women and can provide them with a new treatment option not yet available to the public,” says Dr. Robin Kroll.
